Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, C V Anand, emphasized that the Police Department is working closely with other departments to ensure the Moharram Bibi-ka-Alam procession goes smoothly. A meeting took place at the Salarjung Museum on Tuesday, where Shia community leaders, other community members, and government officials gathered to plan the Moharram events in Hyderabad. C V Anand promised to address the community’s concerns with the help of the relevant departments.
The meeting covered security, traffic, and other important arrangements. Officials from the GHMC, Roads & Buildings, Waterworks, Electricity, Medical & Health, Fire Services, Nehru Zoological Park, and the Telangana Waqf Board shared their feedback.
C V Anand assured that there will be enough parking and traffic diversion strategies to avoid inconvenience. He explained that crime teams, police platoons, and She Teams from all police stations will be deployed to maintain order and prevent incidents like eve-teasing.
Drawing on past experiences, he stated that all necessary steps are being taken to avoid any problems this year. He mentioned that the traditional elephant should arrive a few days before the event to rest. He stressed the need for a safe distance around the elephant and advised having a veterinarian and tranquilizer on hand for emergencies.
During Moharram, especially on the 10th Day of Ashura, Shia Muslims mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his followers. Thousands participate in a large procession (Matam). This year, Moharram might be on July 6 or 7, 2025, based on the moon sighting. The procession starts at Bibi-ka-Alam, Dabeerpura, and moves through Ettebar Chowk, Kotla Aliza, Panjesha, Miralam Mandi, Charminar-Gulzar House, Purani Haveli, Darulshifa, ending at Masjid-e-Ilahi, Chaderghat. Senior traffic officers will manage the traffic plan on-site, and senior officials will supervise the procession. The entire route will be monitored by CCTV from the Command Control Centre, TGICCC, Banjara Hills, in collaboration with all departments.
