Hyderabad is making thorough preparations for the Ganesh idol immersion at Hussain Sagar, especially along Necklace Road and Tank Bund. Ramesh Kumar, an ACP and senior supervisor from GHMC, is overseeing the immersion in three daily shifts.
Officials have a detailed plan to ensure everything runs smoothly. Each shift has specific duties. In the shift led by Ramesh Kumar, eight members are on the ground to manage the arrangements. In total, over 80 people are involved in the immersion operations at Hussain Sagar.
Cranes are crucial for the immersion. They are placed strategically to handle the idols safely and efficiently. At People’s Plaza, six cranes are available, while NTR Park Road has twelve. The baby pond and HMDA Park each have two cranes. Two additional cranes are near Jalavihar Park, ensuring full coverage of critical areas along Necklace Road and Tank Bund.
Officials emphasize the extensive planning behind the immersion process, aiming for a smooth, safe, and timely completion. GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan stated that measures extend beyond Hussain Sagar to include 20 major lakes across Greater Hyderabad.
To accommodate increasing immersions, 72 artificial ponds have been set up citywide, easing pressure on main water bodies. Across various lakes and points, 134 permanent and 259 mobile cranes have been stationed. For nighttime activities, 56,187 temporary lights have been installed. The Hyderabad Police and Tourism Department are also providing support.
At Hussain Sagar, nine boats are ready for emergencies. Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams and 200 trained swimmers are on standby. Thirteen control rooms coordinate operations in real time. The main procession route stretches for about 303.3 kilometers, with 160 Ganesh Action Teams (GATs) deployed.
Sanitation is a priority, with 14,486 workers in three shifts keeping the sites and routes clean. By September 2, around 1,21,905 idols were immersed, and nearly 50,000 more were expected on September 6.
The combined efforts of GHMC, Hyderabad Police, the Tourism Department, and others aim to uphold the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi while ensuring safety, order, and civic responsibility.
