Nagar Kurnool: Importance of Rabies Awareness Highlighted by District Collector
On Saturday, Nagar Kurnool District Collector, Badavath Santosh, emphasized the need for spreading awareness about rabies prevention. He explained that rabies, once contracted, has no cure, making prevention crucial.
A free rabies vaccination and awareness program was organized at the District Parishad High School in Kalwakurthy in observance of World Zoonosis (Rabies) Day. Collector Santosh, who was the chief guest, explained that rabies is one of the most dangerous diseases passed from animals to humans. He urged local authorities to educate pet owners about the importance of vaccinating their dogs against rabies regularly.
The Collector also gave advice to students on how to stay safe around dogs. He cautioned them not to provoke or mistreat dogs and stressed the importance of seeking immediate medical help if bitten. He further educated students on how to protect themselves from dog bites and what steps to take if such an incident occurs.
During the event, students were shown a PowerPoint presentation to better understand the dangers of dog bites. In addition, as part of World Heart Day, the Collector unveiled an awareness poster on preventing heart strokes. DMHO Swarajya Lakshmi provided further information to students on the precautions needed to avoid heart-related issues.
Earlier in the day, the Collector inspected the midday meal kitchen at Kalwakurthy District Parishad High School. He instructed the staff to make sure the meals served to students are both nutritious and tasty. He also encouraged students to work hard in their studies and aim for success in life.
Several officials and dignitaries attended the event, including Additional Collector Deva Sahayam, Kalwakurthy Municipal Chairman Edma Satyam, District Veterinary Officer Dr. G.V. Ramesh, DMHO Swarajya Lakshmi, Kalwakurthy RDO Srinu, teachers, and students.
