Rangareddy: As part of the ‘clean and green’ initiative launched by the State government, the Ranga Reddy district administration mobilized their entire fleet and staff to ensure that roads and streets remain neat and tidy until August 9.
The five-day clean and green drive started on Monday and will continue until August 9. Officials stated that apart from municipalities across the district, several areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) also witnessed the drive on its first day.
District collector K Shashanka actively participated in the program in Ibrahimpatnam mandal. He urged officials to put in more effort to maintain cleanliness and increase green cover in both rural and urban areas.
Addressing the officials, sanitary staff, and students, Shashanka said, “Every person produces 250 grams of garbage a day, which adds up to between 100 and 200 kilograms of waste a year. To manage this issue, we need to adopt a reduce-reuse-recycle (RRR) policy to keep our environment clean.”
He encouraged people to plant saplings to promote a pollution-free environment and raise awareness so others can follow suit. He also suggested that officials should conduct clean and green drives in both rural and urban areas, ensuring public participation.
Later, the District Collector flagged off a clean and green awareness rally, which saw participation from students, sanitary staff, and officials. The students raised slogans emphasizing the importance of a clean environment and took a pledge to keep their surroundings tidy.
RDO Anantha Reddy, municipal chairperson K Sravanti, and various officials and sanitary staff attended the program. In Rajendranagar circle, the sanitary staff conducted clean and green drives across various areas.
Deputy Commissioner Rajendranagar K Ravi Kumar engaged in plantation activities at different locations after holding the ‘Prajavani’ session at the circle office. The sanitary staff was involved in garbage removal and street cleaning.
Local MLA Prakash Goud, who recently joined the Congress, accompanied the officials. On the first day of the program, the clean and green drive covered Laxmiguda, Mailrdevpally, and Shastripuram wards.
