Hyderabad: N. Ramachandra Rao will become the new state chief of the BJP, replacing Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. Shobha Karandlaje, the returning officer for the Telangana State BJP chief elections held on Monday, confirmed that Rao was the sole candidate.
Rao, a former MLC, started his political journey as a student leader with the ABVP at Osmania University. His active involvement in student politics led him to become the ABVP president.
Only one other name, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, was considered for the position. However, Rao’s loyalty to the BJP and support from senior leaders helped him secure the role. The party’s Central leadership also backed him.
During his university days, Rao was targeted by leftist groups due to his efforts to strengthen the ABVP. He then pursued a career in law, starting in 1986, practicing at the Nampally Metropolitan Courts and the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Currently, he practices in the Supreme Court and other high courts, providing valuable legal support to the BJP.
Rao joined the BJP in 1986 and ran for a corporator position from the Ravindranagar division in Hyderabad. Over the years, he has held key roles within the party, notably contributing to the BJP’s state legal cell.
From 2012 to 2015, he was the BJP’s chief spokesperson and served as a Legislative Council member from the Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahabubnagar Graduate Constituency until 2021. Rao also led the BJP Hyderabad City as president.
He is respected for uniting party members from different backgrounds and is admired within the BJP and other political groups. Rao expressed gratitude to the party for trusting his leadership abilities.
