The Telangana government is preparing to deposit funds into farmers’ bank accounts as part of the Rythu Bharosa scheme on either February 17 or 18. The state finance department has already secured the necessary funds for this initiative. Instructions from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will trigger the transfer of aid to the accounts. The government is considering holding MPTC and ZPTC elections in March, following positive results and public support in recent municipal elections. Officials indicate that a notification for these elections might be released by the end of this month.
During the last monsoon season (2025-26 Kharif), 69,39,548 beneficiaries received aid in their accounts. An amount of ₹6,000 per acre was distributed, totaling ₹8,744.13 crores. The funds were transferred over nine days, starting with one acre per day. Preparations are in place to repeat this process for the current season. A satellite survey was conducted under the guidance of Professor Jayashankar Agricultural University in Hyderabad to identify bogus beneficiaries. The university recently submitted a report to the government detailing cultivated lands and fake beneficiaries. Despite this survey, the government has decided to continue implementing the scheme for those who benefited during the monsoon. Rythu Bharosa was extended to 1.46 crore acres last season and will apply to the same extent in the current season. To fund this, the government borrowed ₹9,000 crores from the Reserve Bank of India on February 10. With the municipal election code concluding on February 16, farmers will receive transaction messages from the 17th or 18th. The funds were initially due in January before the Sankranti festival, but the deposit was delayed due to a lack of funds.
After the monsoon, several districts saw transactions involving agricultural lands. New buyers are waiting for registration, leading some farmers to frequent the mandal agricultural officer’s offices. Officials are currently unable to accept new applications without government approval. Farmers are discussing when new registrations will start, as clarity is needed on the cutoff date for registrations since the monsoon.
