In Hyderabad, over 5,000 people from Surya Nagar Colony in Shaikpet, Jubilee Hills have come together to address corruption in GHMC Circle 18. They filed a complaint with the Telangana Vigilance and Enforcement Department, accusing officials of corrupt actions that cause delays in public projects, demand for bribes, and poor infrastructure.
The complaint was submitted by the Surya Nagar Welfare Association, which is part of the Jubilee Hills Colonies Forum representing more than 300 colonies. Asif Sohail Hussain led this effort and urged people to report corruption in GHMC and other government bodies.
Asif Hussain emphasized that these residents are demanding a criminal investigation and a thorough inquiry into the actions of the Assistant City Planner and Section Officer of the GHMC Circle 18 Town Planning Wing. The focus is also on their alleged hidden assets held under others’ names.
The complaint, addressed to AR Srinivas, Director of Vigilance & Enforcement in Telangana, accuses these officials of allowing unauthorized high-rise buildings in violation of GHMC rules. It’s alleged that large bribes are enabling these illegal constructions, with properties reportedly in the names of relatives or associates.
Residents detailed that in Surya Nagar Colony, a legally approved area, seven- to eight-floor buildings are being constructed on small plots. These constructions lack fire safety approvals, parking spaces, and necessary setbacks. As a result, the area’s infrastructure is overwhelmed, causing sewage blockages, water shortages, and restricted emergency access for legal residents.
