In a major operation, the Commissioner’s Task Force, South West Zone Team, arrested four inter-state drug peddlers in Hyderabad. The police seized narcotics worth ₹30 lakhs (3 million INR) during the operation. The arrests took place within the jurisdiction of Habeeb Nagar and Asif Nagar police stations.
Case 1: Habeeb Nagar Police Station
On the evening of September 30, 2024, the police received reliable information about an ongoing drug deal. Officers quickly acted and arrested three individuals near Ravindra Bharathi School in Mallepally. The police seized 144.72 grams of Ogiveed Ganja (a type of organic marijuana) and four cell phones from the suspects. The total value of the drugs and phones is estimated at ₹10 lakhs (1 million INR).
The arrested individuals are:
– Syed Abdullah (32), a businessman dealing in artificial jewelry from Mallepally, Hyderabad, who is suspected of being a ganja dealer.
– Anas Ahmed Shaikh (24), a senior associate at a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company from Govandi, Mumbai, also involved in the ganja trade.
– Irfan Raju Shaikh, also known as Siddique (20), a hotel management student from Dharave, Maharashtra, who is believed to be the supplier of the ganja.
The investigation revealed that Syed Abdullah was addicted to ganja and had previously purchased the drug from Dhoolpet. Abdullah contacted Anas to arrange for more drugs. Anas, along with Irfan, traveled to Hyderabad to deliver the ganja but was caught by the police during the operation.
Case 2: Asif Nagar Police Station
In a separate incident, the Task Force seized 2 kilograms of weed/hash oil and a cell phone from Hantal Gobardhan, also known as Govardhan (32), a farmer from Malkangiri, Odisha. The value of this seizure is estimated at ₹20 lakhs (2 million INR).
Govardhan had been working with a drug supplier named Manoj in Odisha for the past five years. His role was to deliver narcotics to clients in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. During his latest delivery, he was stopped at a vehicle check near Sai Baba Temple in Gudimalkapur, Hyderabad, where the police arrested him.

The arrests were made under the leadership of Sri G. Chandra Mohan, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Zone, and Sri Ande Srinivasa Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. Inspectors of Police S. Bala Swamy and G. Venkateshwarlu and their teams played critical roles in executing the operation.
