Adilabad is looking to restart its Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit, which needs Rs 2,000 crore for revival. CMD Sanjay Banga shared this with Minister for IT and Industries, Duddilla Sridhar Babu during a meeting at the Secretariat in Hyderabad.
Sridhar Babu mentioned that he and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy have urged Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy to support reopening the plant. They believe it can create jobs and aid local growth.
Banga explained that updating the plant requires Rs 2,000 crore, and there are enough raw materials available. Once running, it could employ about 3,000 people. Sridhar Babu emphasized the importance of federal cooperation and opposed the plant’s privatization. He mentioned that the state will soon send a formal proposal to CCI.
The Adilabad region has over 2,000 acres of quality limestone, which makes the revival possible if the central government supports it. MLA Payal Shankar called for strong state backing for these efforts.
Key officials at the meeting included Mines and Geology Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, Mines Director Valluru Kranti, TGIIC MD Shashank, Tandur CCI Plant GM Sharad Kumar, CCI Regional Manager Umesh Kumar Singh, and former Union Minister Venugopalachari, who offered his insights.
