In a major success for the local police, a 35-year-old laborer named K. Srinivas, also known as Srinu, was arrested for organizing a series of motorcycle thefts in Hyderabad. The police recovered 18 stolen motorcycles, worth around ₹10 lakhs, during the operation.
Srinivas, originally from Parigi, had been living in Hyderabad for about 15 years. In 2019, he married a woman named Yellamma, but she sadly passed away from COVID-19 in 2020. Two years later, he married her sister, Vadde Laxmi, but their marriage ended in just three months. These personal hardships led Srinivas down a troubling path. He began to abuse alcohol and marijuana, which eventually pushed him to start stealing motorcycles.
Police investigations revealed that Srinivas carefully targeted busy areas, such as parking lots near hospitals and metro stations. He stole motorcycles from places like Niloufer Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, and ESI Hospital, as well as metro stations across Hyderabad and Cyberabad. His method was to use the stolen motorcycles for a few days and then abandon them in parking lots, under bridges, or by roadsides.
Here is a breakdown of the places where Srinivas committed the thefts:
– Gandhi Hospital: 4 motorcycles (Chilkalguda PS)
– Niloufer Hospital: 4 motorcycles (Nampally PS)
– ESI Hospital: 1 motorcycle (S.R. Nagar PS)
– Osmania General Hospital: 2 motorcycles (Afzalgunj PS)
– Metro Stations (Various): 3 motorcycles (including Miyapur and Kukatpally PS)
– Other Parking Areas: 2 motorcycles (Jubilee Hills & Market PS)
– Ghatkesar: 1 motorcycle
Srinivas was caught on 29 September, and police were able to recover 18 stolen motorcycles. The arrest was made under the supervision of Sri. Dr. B. Bala Swamy, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Zone, and Sri. J. Narsaiah, Additional DCP. The operation was led by Sri. V. Jayapal Reddy, Assistant Commissioner, with help from Inspector Sri. B. Anudeep and Detective Inspector Sri. K. Ramesh Goud, along with their teams.
The police are now looking into who received the stolen motorcycles, as they believe there might be a larger network involved. This case highlights the efforts of the police to tackle rising crime rates and ensure public safety in Hyderabad.
