Hyderabad: On Tuesday, C V Anand, the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, introduced a new unit called the 'Swift Women Action Team' (SWAT). This team consists of 35 specially trained female officers ready to handle protests involving women.
Protests and rallies are common in Hyderabad, and managing female demonstrators has been challenging. To address this, 35 women constables were trained at the Hyderabad Police Headquarters. They learned karate and received specific guidance on safely handling female protesters. C V Anand announced plans to recruit more officers soon, expanding the team to 42 members, divided into two platoons. He praised the officers and team members for their efforts in preparing the new unit.
Later, Commissioner Anand visited the Goshamahal Police Stadium, where police facilities are moving to make way for the new Osmania General Hospital. He reviewed the relocation process and the temporary arrangements for the mounted platoon. The existing police blocks are being moved due to the hospital’s construction. The horse grounds and stables have been temporarily relocated within the stadium, and all police departments will soon transfer their premises to the Medical Department.
The government has granted 11.5 acres to the Hyderabad City Police at this location. Two five-story buildings are being built: one for the City Security Wing (CSW) and the other for vehicle storage from the city’s seven zones. A new horse stable and ground are also in progress. An additional two acres have been allocated near the Traffic Training Institute (TTI). The government approved Rs 55 crore for these projects, with the Police Housing Corporation expected to complete the construction in about a year.
