Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy criticized the state government for not addressing civic problems in slums and residential areas. He spoke with residents in the Jubilee Hills area and discovered issues with broken street lights and water shortages. Officials told him that a lack of funds is the main problem.
In the past, street lights in villages were quickly fixed when they went out. Reddy criticized the Congress government for delays in street light repairs in Hyderabad, which is often called a global city.
The Minister also pointed out that the current command control system is ineffective. There are not enough CCTV cameras, leading to more unreported crimes. He believes that more cameras would help monitor and reduce incidents. Reddy raised concerns about crimes like women harassment and chain-snatching. Despite Hyderabad contributing 70% of the state’s revenue, he feels the city is neglected with insufficient funding.
He mentioned that tenders for street lights have been issued but there is no supply yet, causing frustration among residents who want quick solutions. Without proper street lighting and infrastructure, Hyderabad's growth and investment potential could decline.
Kishan Reddy emphasized that Hyderabad is not just a tech hub; it includes slum areas like Amberpet and Gowliguda.
