Gadwal, Telangana – The Telangana government is taking strong steps to ensure a smooth and trouble-free paddy procurement season for farmers. Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy made it clear that farmers must not face any difficulties while selling their crops.
On Friday, Minister Reddy and Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao held a video meeting with district collectors from Hyderabad. The focus was to check the progress of the ongoing paddy procurement drive.
He told the officials to keep the process running even with the unseasonal rains. He ordered the immediate provision of tarpaulins at all procurement centers to protect the harvested paddy from getting wet. He also demanded better arrangements to transport the grain quickly to rice mills across the state.
The minister emphasized the importance of quick payments to farmers. He asked collectors to be present on the ground to watch the process personally and fix any issues without delay.
Jogulamba Gadwal District Collector B.M. Santhosh reported that the district was performing exceptionally well this season. He shared that the district is expecting a record 1.38 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this year.
Out of this, 50,000 metric tonnes have already been purchased. Farmers have received their payments directly into their bank accounts without any delay. Another 88,000 metric tonnes still need to be collected.
The collector pointed out a massive jump from last year. On May 15, 2024, the district had only procured 2,109 metric tonnes, with payments totaling ₹5.65 crore. But by May 15, 2025, the district had already procured 50,834 metric tonnes, with ₹55.89 lakh paid to farmers.
This marks an increase of over 2,500% in procurement compared to last year. Collector Santhosh confirmed that the government will buy every grain that farmers bring in.
Key officials joined the video conference, including Additional Collectors Lakshminarayana and Narsing Rao, District Civil Supplies Manager Vimala, District Cooperative Officer Srinivas, Marketing Officer Pushpamma, and Agriculture Officer Sakriya Naik.
This strong and coordinated effort shows the Telangana government's commitment to supporting its farmers. Despite unpredictable weather, the state is working hard to ensure timely procurement, fast payments, and reliable logistics.
