The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rain for several Telangana districts this weekend. This is due to a low-pressure system forming in the northern Bay of Bengal. The rain will likely come with strong winds of 30 to 40 km/h. A weather trough from the Arabian Sea to southern Chhattisgarh is worsening the situation. As a result, ‘yellow’ warnings are in place for many areas.
On Thursday, the low-pressure system already caused heavy rain across the state, including in Hyderabad, disrupting daily life. In rural areas, streams and canals overflowed. Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district recorded the highest rainfall at 6.5 cm. Other significant rainfall measurements include 5.7 cm in Sirpur (T) mandal Lonavelli, 5.2 cm in Bejjuru, and 3 cm in Yelkapalli. Ashwaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district received 2.6 cm of rain. Overall, rain was noted at 836 locations throughout the state.
In Mulugu and Bhadradri districts, rivers like Kinnerasani, Murredu, Jilleru, and Thaliperu are dangerously high. Low-level bridges were submerged in parts of Bhupalapally and Khammam districts. Flooding worsened in the Munneru region. On Thursday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police rescued cattle herders trapped by rising floodwaters in a ditch in Chinnamandava, Khammam.
