Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a special gift for a baby girl who was born on one of its buses. The baby will receive a lifetime free bus pass. The ASHA worker who helped deliver the baby will get a free travel pass for one year.
The incident happened on April 15. A pregnant woman named Suvarna was traveling from Nagarkurnool to her home in Kollapur on a Hyderabad-Kollapur Express bus. Near Adirala village in Pedda Kothapalli mandal, she suddenly went into labor.
An ASHA worker named Malli Kantamma, who was traveling with Suvarna, quickly informed the bus conductor Raj Kumar and the private driver Venugopal. They stopped the bus and helped evacuate the other passengers to give privacy for the delivery.
With no hospital nearby, Kantamma helped Suvarna deliver a healthy baby girl right on the bus. After the birth, both mother and baby were taken to the local government hospital by a 108 ambulance. They are both doing well.
TGSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar praised the efforts of the staff and Kantamma for their quick thinking and kindness. He honored them at Bus Bhavan and said it was heartwarming to see RTC staff helping people in times of need.
Sajjanar also honored Gorla Sumasree, who secured 179th rank in the Group-1 exams. She is from Chimanaguntapally village in Wanaparthy district. Her father, Gorla Krishnaiah, had worked as a conductor at the Wanaparthy depot and passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sajjanar congratulated her and encouraged her to do well in her job.
Executive Director Munishekhar, Chief Personnel Manager Usha Devi, and depot managers Krishnamurthy and Venugopal were also present at the event.
