Water Released into Alimineti Madhava Reddy Canal Project

In Peddavoora, Nagarjuna Sagar, 450 cusecs of water were released into the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Srisailam Left Bank Canal Project (AMRP) low-level flood canal. This took place after Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with former minister Kunduru Jana Reddy, switched on a motor at the pump house near Poolathanda in Peddavoora mandal on Friday.

The ministers explained that the heavy rains in the Krishna catchment areas had caused significant flooding in the Krishna River. Because of this, they released the water to fill tanks and ponds within the flood canal area. This water will be used for irrigation during the Kharif season.

The reservoir currently stands at 550 feet. Once it reaches 582 feet, water will be released into the flood canal by gravity. The ministers mentioned that if the flood intensity from the Srisailam project continues, the pump house motors would be stopped within a day or two, and water would be released by gravity.

The low-level flood canal is essential for providing irrigation water to 50,000 acres. The canal is 85 kilometers long and includes 42 distributaries and 30 tanks.
