Authorities have taken strict action following a violent obstruction during a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) anti-encroachment drive at Murgi Chowk in Hyderabad on April 4. The incident occurred when civic officials, backed by Charminar Division police, were conducting a routine removal of illegal encroachments along the stretch from Lad Bazar to Puranapool.
During the operation, GHMC officials were confronted by an unlawful assembly that attempted to halt the anti-encroachment activities. The situation escalated when a police constable on duty was physically assaulted while trying to protect civic officials performing their lawful duties. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of public servants carrying out government-mandated operations.
Police have identified the accused individuals involved in the obstruction as Sahil Akber (A-1), Ghouse (A-2) who is a former corporator, and Rahmath Baig (A-3) who holds the position of MLC, along with several of their associates. The identification of prominent political figures among the accused has added significant attention to the case.
Based on a formal complaint filed by the affected officials, Hussainialam Police Station has registered a case numbered Crime No. 102/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The legal framework addresses offenses related to obstructing public servants and assault on government officials during the discharge of their duties.
Law enforcement authorities have successfully arrested Sahil Akber (A-1), who has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. The swift action demonstrates the commitment of authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure that public servants can perform their duties without fear of intimidation or violence.
Police officials have stated that efforts are currently underway to initiate further legal action against the remaining accused individuals. The investigation continues as authorities work to ensure all those involved in the obstruction and assault face appropriate legal consequences according to the provisions of law.
Officials have issued a stern warning that any attempt to obstruct public servants or resort to violence against officials discharging their lawful duties will be dealt with firmly as per law. The statement emphasizes the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward interference in civic administration activities and assaults on duty-bound personnel.
