Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, raised questions about the BRS party’s decision not to nominate a candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections, despite having 38 MLAs.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Bandi Sanjay suggested that BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao did not announce a candidate in return for Congress leader and Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s efforts in securing bail for KCR’s daughter, K Kavitha, in a liquor scam case. He referred to Singhvi as a “common candidate” for both the BRS and Congress.

On the same day, the Minister attended a state-level workshop focused on the BJP’s membership drive. He mentioned that, under the guidance of BJP chief JP Nadda, the party is pushing for large-scale membership registration in Telangana, led by state party chief G Kishan Reddy.

Bandi Sanjay expressed excitement about the membership drive, stating that BJP leaders and workers in Telangana are enthusiastic. He added that the BJP’s popularity in the state is growing, and people are eager to join the party in large numbers.

Referring to Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Bandi Sanjay claimed that Singhvi’s efforts in securing bail for KCR’s daughter prompted KCR to support him as a Rajya Sabha candidate for Congress. He emphasized that Singhvi is essentially a joint candidate for both the BRS and Congress, as per KCR’s suggestion.

Bandi Sanjay also pointed out that Wednesday was the last day for Rajya Sabha nominations and questioned why the BRS, with 38 MLAs, did not field a candidate. He noted that the BJP, with only eight MLAs, could not contest, but insisted that the BRS owes an explanation for its decision not to participate.

The Karimnagar MP mentioned that BRS would likely have won the Rajya Sabha seat if they had contested due to significant cross-voting among Congress members. He claimed that about 10 Congress MLAs are in contact with KCR, yet BRS chose not to compete. He reiterated that the Congress Rajya Sabha candidate is a joint candidate of both BRS and Congress.

Finally, Bandi Sanjay addressed the issue of HYDRA raids and demolitions, alleging that these actions were motivated by a desire to collect funds. He accused HYDRA of conducting these activities to raise money for Congress in the upcoming Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections.
