HYDRAA Commissioner Sri AV Ranganath conducted a field inspection on Wednesday following complaints received through Praja Vani. His visit began at the Taj Banjara Lake located on Road No. 01 in Banjara Hills. The inspection highlighted concerns about encroachments and pollution affecting the lake. Local MLA Sri Danam Nagender, along with area residents, had previously reported the lake’s deteriorating condition, citing encroachments and severe pollution issues.

During the inspection, Commissioner Ranganath noted that sewage water was being discharged directly into the lake. He observed that the lake was filled with plastic waste, contributing to its transformation from a pristine water body to a polluted site. The Commissioner expressed concern over the lake’s current state, emphasizing that it has become one of the most polluted water bodies in Hyderabad. He pointed out that illegal constructions within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and waste dumping are threatening the lake’s existence.

Commissioner Ranganath assured the public that a comprehensive report would be prepared to address these issues. He emphasized that the protection of government land adjacent to the lake and the lake’s rejuvenation were priorities. The Commissioner promised that strict action would be taken against constructions blocking canals and increasing flood risks. He also committed to a transparent inquiry involving both complainants and those accused of encroachment.

The Commissioner mentioned that lake development works would commence once government approval was obtained. Meanwhile, residents complained that access to the Kattamaisamma Temple was being restricted by the Taj Banjara Hotel, demanding action from the GHMC. There were also calls for the development of government land into a public park.

In addition to the Banjara Lake issues, Commissioner Ranganath addressed complaints about disappearing ponds in Mamidipally, Shamshabad Mandal. Residents had reported the disappearance of four to five ponds in the area, including Ongoni Kunta, Kanakayya Kunta, Marrivanka Kunta, and Errakunta. The Commissioner took these concerns seriously and instructed officials to gather detailed information about the ponds and the flood canals in the vicinity.

Residents voiced complaints that residential areas were frequently submerged during the rainy season due to the occupation and blockage of flood canals. Commissioner Ranganath informed locals that a meeting with encroachers would be arranged to address the issue. He assured that if voluntary removal did not occur, the GHMC would intervene directly.
