Hyderabad: The Deputy Chief Minister, Bhatti Vikramarka, highlighted the growing importance of green energy for the future. He stated that Telangana is advancing strategically by emphasizing this sector.
On Saturday, he visited the Greenko Integrated Power Project in Pinnapuram village, located in the Orvakal Mandal of Kurnool district.
He discussed Telangana’s goals in renewable energy, revealing that agreements amounting to ₹1 lakh crore have been secured for green power in the state. The government has set forth the 2025 New Energy Policy, targeting 20,000 MW of green power by 2029–30.
Bhatti noted the rising power demand nationwide and explained that Telangana is looking at different methods to boost electricity production, aiming for a surplus. “Electricity is essential for every product globally. Increasing production requires ample power. More production means more jobs and a higher state GDP. It’s a cycle,” he stated.
He also mentioned that as electricity use grows in India, relying solely on coal would raise costs and pollution, harming the environment. Thus, the country is quickly transitioning to green power, following global trends.
During his visit, Bhatti conducted an aerial survey of the project site by helicopter. He examined the main facilities, including the reservoirs of the pumped storage system, the powerhouse, and the modern substation.
He assessed the integration of solar, wind, and 1,680 MW of hydro pumped storage, with a four-hour cycle, twice a day.
Present at the event were Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary to the Energy Department, TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar, GENCO CMD Harish, and others.
