Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has expressed concern over the cutting down of trees and possible harm to wildlife near the University of Hyderabad (HCU). It has asked the Telangana Government to send a detailed report on the situation immediately.
This request follows a meeting in New Delhi where a group of BJP MPs, led by Union Minister for Coal G Kishan Reddy, brought the issue to the attention of Union Environment Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday. Soon after, the Union Ministry sent a letter to the Telangana Government seeking information on the tree removal.
The Ministry has asked for a clear report from the state to confirm whether any environmental laws or court orders have been violated. The Telangana Forest Department must also provide an update on any actions taken so far.
Meanwhile, student groups and opposition parties are strongly opposing the destruction of the green area. They say it threatens local wildlife, especially Spotted Deer and Peacocks. Many members of the public are calling on the government to stop cutting trees until proper steps are taken to protect and relocate the animals.
