Adilabad – The government is taking strong steps to help jowar farmers get a fair price for their crops. District Collector Rajarshi Shah announced that the goal is to remove middlemen from the process and make sure farmers receive the official support price directly.
On Sunday, Shah spoke with officials from the agriculture, marketing, cooperative societies, and Markfed departments in a teleconference. He made it clear—any attempt to bring jowar from other states to benefit from the local support price will face strict legal action.
“We’ve already caught people doing this,” Shah said. “We seized around 500 sacks of jowar in Madapur, Ichoda Mandal, 87 sacks in Indervelli, 64 sacks in Bazaar Hatnur, and stopped three vehicles in Bhimpur.” Authorities have registered criminal cases, and investigations are underway.
To protect local farmers, the district has opened purchase centers through cooperative societies in several areas. These include Adilabad, Jainath, Tamsi, Ichoda, Boath, Sirikonda, Neradigonda, Dhannur B, Sonala, Mediguda, Indervelli, Shampur, and Narnur.
Shah urged farmers not to trust middlemen with their documents. “Work directly with the government,” he said. “That’s the best way to get the full support price and avoid problems.”
