Hyderabad: Dr. V Clement Ben, from the Central Zoo Authority in New Delhi, praised Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad for its cleanliness and spacious animal enclosures. He admired the zoo’s breeding and vaccination programs, as well as its educational initiatives, calling them well-executed and highly successful.
Dr. Clement thanked the zoo staff for their dedication to wildlife conservation and breeding. He promised support from the Central Zoo Authority whenever needed. His visit to the zoo on Monday was official, and he was warmly welcomed by Dr. C Suvarna, Elusing Meru, Dr. Sunil S Hiremath, and J Vasantha.
Dr. Clement, along with zoo officials, toured the zoo to inspect animal enclosures. The Director of Zoo Parks and the Curator of Nehru Zoological Park explained daily maintenance routines, including vaccination schedules, breeding programs, animal exchanges, and health check-ups.
He also visited the Mouse Deer Breeding Centre, a leading facility in India for breeding and releasing these animals back into the wild, supported by the Central Zoo Authority. Dr. Clement planted Cassia Fistula and other fruit plants during the Van Mahotsav program. The Director of Zoo Parks later presented a detailed overview of zoos in Telangana through a PowerPoint presentation.
The Mouse Deer Breeding Centre, started in 2010 with six deer, grew to over 300 by 2017. These animals are now released into the wild in Telangana and are popular in animal exchange programs.
