Hyderabad is preparing for a significant urban transformation as the Telangana government announces plans to extend Metro Rail and city bus services until 2 AM. This initiative aims to ensure safe and convenient late-night travel for residents and visitors across the city.

The move forms a key component of the ambitious ‘Telangana Rising – 2047’ vision document, which was unveiled at the Telangana Rising Global Summit. The summit has attracted investments worth lakhs of crores, signaling strong confidence in the state’s development trajectory.

Under this long-term strategic plan, the government envisions transforming Hyderabad into a global city, a Net-Zero City, and ultimately the ‘Night Time Capital of South Asia’. The comprehensive 83-page vision document introduces an innovative development model that divides the state into Cure, Pure, and Rare zones for focused and targeted progress.

To support the night-time economy and enhance urban life, several key areas will be designated as official night zones. These include Madhapur, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Tank Bund, Old City, and the Airport corridor. The extended operating hours for RTC and Metro services until 2 AM will provide essential connectivity to these bustling areas.

The initiative is expected to boost night-life, tourism, and economic activity across the city. One of the standout features is the proposed ‘Hyderabad After Dark Mile’, which will showcase night bazaars and food festivals stretching from Charminar to Golconda via Tank Bund. This cultural corridor aims to revive the city’s heritage while creating new opportunities for local businesses.

To simplify travel and tourism, the state government plans to launch a unified ‘Telangana Pass’. This integrated system will streamline travel arrangements, hotel bookings, and ticketing for tourists, making it easier for visitors to explore the state.

The tourism development plan extends beyond Hyderabad. The state has identified 27 important tourist circuit areas for development. The master plan includes helicopter services over Somasila, Ramappa, Nagarjunasagar, and Kaleshwaram, offering aerial views of these scenic locations.

Adventure tourism will receive a significant boost with mountaineering facilities planned in Bhuvanagiri. Nature enthusiasts can look forward to eco-trails in Amrabad and Kawwal forests. Additional resorts are planned in tiger sanctuary areas to promote wildlife tourism while ensuring conservation.

The extended public transport hours represent a shift in urban planning, acknowledging the changing lifestyle patterns of the city’s residents. The late-night services will particularly benefit IT professionals, hospitality workers, and others employed in sectors that operate beyond traditional hours.

The comprehensive development initiatives are expected to create numerous employment opportunities across tourism, hospitality, and service sectors. The government anticipates that these measures will significantly increase the number of people employed in the state while positioning Hyderabad as a modern global city with world-class infrastructure and amenities.

The Telangana Rising – 2047 vision document represents a roadmap for the state’s development over the next two decades, with the extended public transport services serving as an immediate and tangible step toward realizing this ambitious goal.
