The Hyderabad Traffic Police has announced that continuous special enforcement drives will be conducted against motorists driving without a valid Driving Licence (DL) starting from 1st March 2026. The initiative aims to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations across the city.
All commuters have been strictly advised to carry a valid Driving License while operating any vehicle on public roads. Those who do not possess a driving licence are urged to obtain one from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) at the earliest to avoid legal complications and penalties.
According to traffic authorities, a significant majority of road accidents in the city involve drivers who do not hold a valid Driving Licence. This observation has prompted the police department to take stringent action against unlicensed drivers to curb the rising number of preventable accidents.
Vehicle owners have also been issued a stern warning not to permit their vehicles to be driven by persons who lack a valid Driving Licence. The traffic police have clarified that allowing an unlicensed person to drive is also a punishable offence under motor vehicle regulations.
The authorities have highlighted a critical financial and legal consequence for vehicle owners and drivers. If an accident occurs while a vehicle is being operated by a person without a valid Driving Licence, insurance claims cannot be processed. This can result in serious financial burden and legal liabilities for all parties involved.
The upcoming special drives are expected to be comprehensive and continuous in nature, covering all major roads and traffic points across Hyderabad. Traffic personnel will be deployed to check documents and take action against violators as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have emphasized that obtaining a driving licence is not merely a legal formality but an essential step to ensure that drivers possess the necessary skills and knowledge to operate vehicles safely. The licensing process includes tests to assess driving competency and understanding of traffic rules.
In an official statement, D. Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Hyderabad, requested the public to cooperate and strictly adhere to traffic rules in the interest of road safety. The traffic police have appealed to all citizens to support this initiative for safer roads in the city.
