Hyderabad: The BRS working president KT Rama Rao claimed that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy might be the first leader in the country to join the BJP after the Lok Sabha elections. He made this statement during a meeting of the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency at Telangana Bhavan.
Rao pointed out that Reddy’s silence on accusations of his ties with the BJP suggests a potential switch in allegiance. He challenged Revanth to publicly affirm his commitment to the Congress if he has no plans to join the BJP.
Accusations have emerged against Reddy, alleging that he extorted money from business people in the State and sent it to the high command. Rao claimed that Reddy had already sent Rs 2,500 crore to Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. To gather such a large sum, Reddy supposedly held back permissions for buildings and layouts, pressuring real estate stakeholders for funds under threat of denial of approvals.
Rao predicted that the Congress party would only secure around 40 MP seats in the upcoming elections, stressing the need for strong regional political entities like TMC, AAP, and BRS to counter the BJP wave. He criticized Reddy for aligning with BJP ideologies despite Congress holding power in the State.
KTR also criticized Danam Nagender for defecting to the Congress, calling it opportunistic politics. He vowed to challenge Danam in the Secunderabad LS seat and any potential Khairatabad by-election. He demanded prompt action from the Assembly Speaker on the BRS complaint against Nagender.
Rao criticized Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for his alleged lack of contribution to the city’s development. He referred to Reddy as an “accidental” MP and Central minister, citing his previous loss in the Amberpet constituency during the last Assembly elections. Rao sarcastically mentioned Reddy’s achievements like distributing Kurkure packets during Covid and opening Syntex water tanks in his constituency.
