Mahabubnagar: Local MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy supports the decision by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to involve the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Kaleshwaram project corruption case. The aim is to ensure a fair investigation, uncover the truth, and punish those responsible quickly. During a press conference at the District Congress Party office, alongside Minister Vakati Srihari, Reddy stated that the state government values transparency and has nothing to hide. He mentioned that the Ghosh Committee report has been discussed in the Assembly, highlighting project irregularities. The Chief Minister wants a speedy investigation to avoid delays in justice.
Reddy explained that state authorities can only operate within Telangana, but the Ghosh Committee report involves interstate water issues and changes to projects like Tummidihatti moving to Medigadda. It also involves documents from national bodies like the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the National Dam Safety Authority.
Many central agencies and banks, including the Power Finance Corporation, funded the Kaleshwaram project. Only the CBI, with its national reach, can gather the necessary documents and conduct a comprehensive probe, Reddy noted.
Reddy raised concerns about possible financial corruption, noting that loans for the project were at 10.5% interest, higher than the usual 7–8% for major irrigation projects, suggesting potential financial manipulation.
He described the issue as a major scam and said the decision for CBI involvement was unanimous after thorough Cabinet discussions. The CBI’s expertise will ensure a thorough and obstacle-free investigation, showcasing the government’s commitment to justice.
Reddy dismissed criticism from the BJP, urging them to support the investigation aimed at revealing corruption and holding the guilty accountable.
