The Hyderabad traffic police have taken steps to improve traffic flow on newly widened roads in the Old City. These actions were in response to issues raised by Hans India about commercial establishments, like hotels and restaurants, that were illegally using the roads for parking and other purposes, causing congestion. To address this, the police placed temporary dividers and warned the business owners to stop occupying the roads.

Earlier, Hans India published a report on August 20 titled ‘Cops turn a blind eye to illegal parking on new widened roads.’ The report highlighted how many businesses, particularly in the Old City, were violating traffic rules by parking vehicles haphazardly on the newly expanded roads. This was especially problematic in areas like Himmatpura, Fateh Darwaza, and Shalibanda, where establishments like Rumaan Hotel and Mehraj Bakery were taking up road space, making the roads narrow and causing bottlenecks.

On Thursday, the Bahadurpura traffic police inspected these areas and cleared the illegal encroachments. They also warned the business owners not to allow their customers to park on the road. In response to requests from residents and regular commuters, the traffic police placed temporary dividers to help manage traffic better.

Mohammed Ahmed, a local resident, mentioned that during the police inspection, both residents and commuters urged the officers to take strict action if the roads were encroached upon again. They also requested that the dividers remain in place and asked for an officer to be deployed during peak traffic hours if possible.

A senior officer from the Bahadurpura police station explained that the roads were widened to improve infrastructure and ease traffic in the area, but the illegal occupation by businesses was causing traffic jams. The officer stated that the police had cleared the roads and warned the business owners that legal action would be taken if they continued to allow parking on the roads.

Meanwhile, the Mir Chowk traffic police also took action at Edi Bazar circle in Santosh Nagar. They removed illegal encroachments and warned businesses like Anmol Mandi House, Al Mansoor Bakery, and Jannat women’s wear showroom not to occupy the roads. Additionally, the police issued no-parking fines to vehicles that were parked illegally on the roads.
