Hyderabad: The Telangana government has taken a big step toward improving transport services by launching the ‘Vahan Sarathi’ portal at the Secunderabad RTO office. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar introduced this digital platform as a pilot project to offer faster, easier access to essential services for drivers and vehicle owners.
The Vahan Sarathi portal simplifies the process of getting a driving license or registering a vehicle. It is a centralized system that automates many tasks handled by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). These include issuing permits, collecting road taxes, and managing driving school licenses — all in one place.
Although the Central Government rolled out this system in 2021, the former BRS-led Telangana government chose a private setup managed by CMS Computers Limited instead. Meanwhile, states like Andhra Pradesh had already adopted the national platform with success.
Now, Telangana is finally joining the rest of the country by connecting to the central database managed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). This move will help store and manage vehicle and driver data more efficiently at the national level.
With Vahan Sarathi, users can now easily renew driving licenses, transfer vehicle registrations between states, and update address details online. The portal is expected to bring more transparency, reduce paperwork, and cut down the time spent at RTO offices.
By joining the national network, Telangana aims to provide smoother, faster, and more reliable transport services to its citizens.
