Hyderabad: Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Roads & Buildings Minister, has instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to speed up the approval process and quickly begin construction of the new Elevated Corridor from LB Nagar to Pedda Amberpet.
On Sunday, the Minister visited the Vanasthalipuram Junction, a key part of the planned LB Nagar traffic corridor. This project, expected to be 6 km long, aims to reduce traffic jams. He was joined by NHAI officials, R&B engineers, LB Nagar MLA Devireddy Sudheer Reddy, corporators, and local leaders to review plans and designs.
Venkat Reddy emphasized that the long-awaited elevated corridor, with an estimated cost of Rs 650 crore, will be prioritized. The route will pass through the ORR, linking important city and suburban areas. A meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is set for August 6 to secure final approvals.
In a media briefing, he mentioned plans for a new highway between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. This route will reduce travel time to just two hours, making it faster and safer than flying, which takes nearly five hours.
The Minister also reported progress on the Gaurelli–Valigonda–Bhadrachalam highway, valued at Rs 2,300 crore. The section between Valigonda and Thorrur is finished, and tenders for the Thorrur–Bhadrachalam part are in process.
Regarding the Metro expansion, he shared that CM Revanth Reddy assigned him to secure approvals for Phase 2. The Congress government is committed to developing a top-tier Metro system, just like Phase 1 under Jaipal Reddy.
He criticized the previous BRS government for not completing the Uppal–Narapally flyover, accusing them of unfulfilled promises.
The Minister reiterated the Congress government’s dedication to welfare and inclusive growth. They are addressing pending ration card applications, restarting Indiramma housing, and providing subsidized rice. Eligible families will receive Rs 5 lakh for building homes.
On BC reservations, Venkat Reddy questioned BRS leader Kavitha’s recent comments, asking why she didn’t advocate for BCs in the past decade. He noted that the State Assembly had passed a resolution on BC reservations, and the Congress party would continue urging the Centre for swift action.
