Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has challenged BRS leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) to an open debate on government policies and development programs. This comes after KCR accused the current Congress government of scrapping key welfare schemes during a recent public meeting in Warangal.
Speaking at an event marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Basaveshwara on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy criticized KCR for making baseless allegations instead of offering constructive feedback. He pointed out that the Congress government had even supported the BRS by providing RTC buses for their silver jubilee celebrations.
“If there are any welfare schemes the Congress government has ended, let KCR name them,” Revanth said. He invited the BRS chief to a public debate and listed topics for discussion, including the Kaleshwaram project, free bus travel, loan waivers, Rythu Bandhu, job creation, SC classification, and the caste census.
Revanth claimed KCR didn’t even dare to name him during the Warangal meeting. He criticized KCR for not fulfilling his role as Leader of the Opposition and instead staying secluded in his farmhouse.
“He’s collecting a salary of ₹65 lakh, using government vehicles, and enjoying police protection, but he’s not doing his job,” Revanth said. “A strong opposition is crucial for democracy, but KCR has failed to play that role.”
He also hit back at KCR’s claim that the Congress was the “first villain of Telangana.” Revanth accused KCR of exploiting the state for a decade and said the former CM had no moral ground to blame others.
Revanth Reddy’s statements mark a sharp escalation in the political battle between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS as they gear up for future elections in Telangana.
