The Cyberabad IT corridor and Hyderabad West Zone witnessed more than 14 tree falls within a span of just 45 minutes on a recent evening, causing significant disruption to traffic and daily commuters. The incidents were reported between 6:45 pm and 7:30 pm, a period that coincides with peak office hours when thousands of IT professionals and residents travel through these busy routes.
Despite the rainfall measuring only around 2 cm, strong winds and gales accompanying the rain led to multiple trees uprooting and falling across major roads. The sudden weather change caught many commuters off guard, with the gusty winds proving powerful enough to bring down several large trees and even an electricity pole in the area.
Heavy traffic congestion was reported across key locations including Gachibowli, Kondapur, Yousufguda, Hafeezpet, Miyapur, and Madhapur. These areas, which are already known for high traffic volumes during evening hours, faced severe gridlock as fallen trees blocked major thoroughfares and diverted vehicles onto alternate routes.
One of the most significant incidents occurred on the Gachibowli-DLF route, where both an electricity pole and a tree fell on the road divider and median. This incident forced authorities to temporarily close the road to ensure public safety and allow clearance operations to proceed. The closure added to the traffic woes as vehicles had to be rerouted through already congested side roads.
HYDRAA DRF teams responded immediately to all reported incidents across the affected zones. The disaster response force teams were deployed to multiple locations simultaneously to clear the fallen trees and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible. Their prompt action helped prevent any major accidents or injuries despite the challenging conditions.
According to official updates, around 12 tree falls have been cleared by the response teams working through the evening and night. The teams used specialized equipment including chainsaws and cranes to cut and remove the fallen trees from roads and public spaces. Traffic movement has been gradually restored on most of the affected routes.
As of the latest update, 2 locations are still under clearance work, with teams continuing their efforts to fully restore normalcy in the affected areas. The incidents have once again highlighted the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to sudden weather changes and the need for regular tree maintenance in high-traffic zones.
