Hyderabad: Dr. K Kesava Rao, Advisor to the Telangana State Government and former Rajya Sabha member, spoke about his past efforts to improve education. He said that when he was a minister, he helped start the universal education system and set up a university. His main goal was to teach skills to people who had none.
Dr. Rao gave a speech as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of “Social Empowerment Week” at Dr. BR Ambedkar University. The event was held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Dr. Rao said he felt proud to have helped launch universal education 43 years ago. He also praised the growth of Ambedkar University.
He said he hopes the university will continue to grow by adding more technical courses. These skill-based programs, he explained, will help students find jobs and even start their own businesses.
During the event, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ghanta Chakrapani, said that many activities were held from April 5 to honor Ambedkar’s birthday. He also shared that the State government had approved a long-term plan to improve the university’s buildings and facilities over the next 30 years.
Professor Chakrapani said they are planning to offer more skill courses in the future. The university also plans to sign agreements with well-known industries to train 10,000 students every year as skilled professionals.
Some of the university’s contract teachers spoke to Dr. Rao during the event. They asked him to talk to the Chief Minister about making them permanent staff. Dr. Rao said he would take their concerns to the government.
Earlier in the day, two short films were shown. One was about the partnership between Ambedkar University and the Telangana Government. The other showed stories of successful students from the university. Prizes were also given to winners of cultural and sports events.
