Hyderabad is introducing a significant change in agricultural education this month. For the first time, children of farmers and farm workers can access a special quota for B.Sc (Agriculture) and B.Tech (Food Technology) courses. Joint counseling for these degrees will occur from the 19th to the 23rd.
Dr. G.E. C H Vidyasagar, the Registrar of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), announced the first phase of joint counseling. This will include admissions for SKLTHU and SPVNRTVU as well. Counseling sessions are scheduled at the University Auditorium in Rajendranagar from the 19th to the 23rd, starting at 9.30 am daily.
Guided by the State Government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, a new quota is being introduced for children of agricultural workers in the B.Sc and B.Tech programs. To qualify, students need to be children of agricultural laborers, have studied in government schools or similar institutions for at least four years from 4th to 12th grade, hold a Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme card, and have no agricultural land ownership in their family.
Under this scheme, 15% of seats in each program are reserved. Students with less than one acre of land, meeting the education criteria, are also eligible. All candidates must present necessary certificates during counseling to validate their eligibility.
The first semester fee for both B.Sc (Agriculture) and B.Tech (Food Technology) is Rs. 49,560. Further details are available on the university’s website, www.pjtau.edu.in.
