Hyderabad: Jeedimetla police discovered two men pretending to be Naxalites, trying to extort Rs 50 lakh from a local businessman. The police arrested Yerramsetty Raju (33) and Kandurelli Raju (24), both from Gannavaram, Andhra Pradesh, and seized 13 homemade bombs, a threatening letter, and four mobile phones.
On May 22, Kuna Raghavender Goud reported that a tulsi plant in front of his house was damaged, and a letter with a red towel was left on his car. The note claimed the writers were Naxalites, demanding Rs 50 lakh and threatening harm if the money wasn’t paid.
Balanagar ACP Naresh Reddy explained that the police began an extensive investigation, reviewing footage from over 500 CCTV cameras. They discovered two young men, around 25-30 years old, visiting the complainant’s house.
Following a lead, Jeedimetla police found the suspects hiding in HMT Jungle and arrested them. During questioning, both confessed to the crime, admitting they aimed to extort a large sum due to their financial troubles.
The accused temporarily lived in Shapur Nagar and worked in a private company. Facing financial hardships, they decided to impersonate Naxalites to extract money from a wealthy local resident.
When they received no response, they traveled to Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, to make an improvised explosive device (IED). Returning to Hyderabad, they planned to plant the bomb at the residence on May 28 to intimidate the victim into paying.
