Yadagirigutta: The Telangana government has approved the establishment of the state’s first Vedic school at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Yadagirigutta. This new school will provide Vedic education and aims to preserve and promote ancient religious traditions.
The school will be built following the model of the Vedic schools run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). To manage the project, a special committee has been formed under the guidance of the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. This committee will operate through the Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority (YTDDA), which was recently set up by the state government.
The government has allocated 15 acres of land in Pedda Gutta, the temple town, for the school. An earlier plan to use 17.13 acres in Raigiri was canceled due to poor road access and lack of electricity.
The Vedic school will be jointly managed by the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham of Tamil Nadu and the Sringeri Peetham of Kanchipuram. It will train students to become Vedic scholars and priests. Existing Vedic experts will also receive additional training through refresher courses. The government is also considering merging the current Sanskrit school at the temple with the new Vedic school.
The estimated cost of the entire project is ₹43.79 crore. In the first phase, ₹23.79 crore has been allocated. The design and construction will be handled by the firm Murthy & Manian, with the YTDDA overseeing the progress under the guidance of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
To ensure smooth management, a special committee will be set up. It will be led by the Chief Secretary of the government, with the Commissioner of the Endowments Department as the Convener. Other members will include the Vice-Chairman of YTDDA, the Executive Officer of the Yadagirigutta Temple, a representative from the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, the Chairman of the Vedic School Govinda Hari, retired ENC K Kondal Rao, and the Chief Engineer of the Endowments Department.
