Hyderabad: T Prabhakar Rao, the former head of Telangana's Special Investigation Bureau (SIB), faced the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Monday regarding his involvement in a phone tapping case. The meeting took place at the Jubilee Hills Police Station.
Prabhakar returned to Hyderabad after spending almost 15 months in the United States. This was his first appearance in front of the SIT since the investigation of the phone tapping issue began. He is considered the main suspect in the case filed at the Panjagutta police station.
SIT officials suggested that more questioning sessions might follow, depending on what they discover during the inquiry.
Prabhakar left for the US just before the case was filed. The SIT requested his presence multiple times, but he did not return, leading to him being labeled an absconder. A red corner notice was issued, and his passport was revoked.
On May 29, the Supreme Court instructed authorities to provide Prabhakar with an emergency travel document for his return. This decision came from a bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma after Prabhakar challenged a Telangana High Court order that denied his anticipatory bail. The bench also ensured that no coercive actions would be taken against him until further notice.
Following the Supreme Court’s directive, Prabhakar promised to return promptly with the emergency document and assist in the investigation.
Previously, the SIT arrested four officers: G Praneeth Rao, P Radha Kishan Rao, N Bhuganja Rao, and M Tirupathanna and questioned them about the case.
