G. Chandrashekhar Reddy, a senior officer from the 1991 batch of the Indian Forest Service, has been named the new Chief Information Commissioner of Telangana. The state government announced his appointment on Monday.
Before this role, Reddy was working as Principal Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office. He also handled multiple responsibilities, including serving as the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and acting as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Telangana Forest Development Corporation Limited.
Reddy brings a strong academic background. He earned a BSc in Forestry from Osmania University and a Postgraduate degree in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He also completed a Master’s in Management and Public Policy from IIM Bangalore and Syracuse University in the USA. He later received a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Kakatiya University.
With over 34 years of experience, Reddy has worked in a wide range of environmental and resource management areas. His expertise includes forest and wildlife management, watershed development, drought and flood control, urban forest park creation, and eco-friendly coal mining. He also promoted bio-diesel plantations and biodiversity conservation.
Throughout his career, Reddy has led several major international development projects. He served as Project Director for programs funded by DFID, JICA, and the World Bank focusing on livelihood improvement and water resource management in Telangana.
His appointment adds a highly experienced environmental leader to the critical role of overseeing transparency and information access in the state.
