A strong cold wave has returned to Hyderabad, with several areas recording temperatures below 12 degrees Celsius on the morning of 7 January 2026. The University of Hyderabad and Moula Ali recorded the lowest temperatures in the city at 9.6°C, marking a significant drop that has left residents reaching for their winter clothing. Other areas including Rajendranagar and Alwal registered 10.7°C, while Bollaram recorded 11.0°C during the early morning hours.
Multiple localities across the city experienced the chill, with West Marredpally at 11.3°C, Quthbullapur at 11.4°C, and Sivarampalle at 11.8°C. The central areas also felt the cold, with Kishan Bagh recording 12.2°C, Suleman Nagar at 12.5°C, and Tirumalagiri at 12.6°C. Even the historically warmer areas like Shapur Nagar and Sardar Mahal near Charminar recorded temperatures of 13.0°C and 13.2°C respectively.
Across Telangana, the lowest temperature was recorded in Kohir in Sangareddy district, which dropped to 7.7°C. This marked the coldest spot in the state during the current cold wave. The temperature readings indicate a widespread impact of the cold weather conditions affecting not just the capital city but also rural and semi-urban areas across the region.
Weather authorities have indicated that temperatures are expected to drop further over the next three days. Residents have been advised to stay warm and take necessary precautions during the ongoing cold wave conditions. The sudden temperature drop has prompted many to adjust their daily routines and ensure adequate protection against the cold weather.
