A severe cold wave has returned to Telangana with temperatures dropping significantly across the state on December 18, 2025. Several areas in Hyderabad and neighboring districts recorded single-digit temperatures, marking one of the coldest spells of the season.
The outskirts of Hyderabad experienced the most severe cold conditions. Moinabad recorded the lowest temperature in the city at 6.5°C, while Ibrahimpatnam registered 7.5°C. These areas witnessed near-freezing conditions in the early morning hours.
Within the core GHMC areas, temperatures remained in the range of 8°C to 13°C. HCU Serlingampally recorded 8.1°C, making it the coldest location within the municipal limits. Moula Ali saw temperatures drop to 9.4°C, followed by Rajendranagar at 9.5°C.
Other prominent areas that experienced cold conditions included Gachibowli at 11°C, West Maredpally at 11°C, and Sivarampalle at 11.3°C. Bahadurpura recorded 11.4°C, while Gajularamaram and Jeedimetla registered 11.6°C and 11.9°C respectively.
Central Hyderabad locations also felt the chill. Alwal recorded 12°C, Tirumalgiri saw 12.4°C, and Neredmet registered 12.5°C. Historic areas like Begumpet, Asifnagar, and Golconda all recorded 12.6°C. BHEL registered 12.8°C, while LB Stadium and Charminar both recorded 12.9°C. Malkajgiri was relatively warmer at 13.1°C.
Across Telangana, several districts recorded even lower temperatures. KB Asifabad topped the list with 5.7°C, followed by Sangareddy at 6.4°C and Rangareddy at 6.5°C. Adilabad recorded 7.7°C, while Vikarabad and Siddipet both registered 8.1°C.
Medak saw temperatures of 8.5°C, Kamareddy recorded 8.6°C, and Nirmal registered 8.9°C. Nizamabad recorded 9.1°C, while Nagarkurnool saw 9.8°C.
Weather authorities have issued warnings that the cold wave is expected to intensify further from tonight. Temperatures between 5-7°C are likely in North and West Telangana, while Hyderabad city may see temperatures ranging between 7-9°C in the coming days.
