Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) assured residents in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits that there would be no drinking water shortage, as they were making arrangements for sufficient supply.

Despite these claims, locals have reported unreliable municipal water supply and delays in water tanker deliveries, especially in areas with high demand. Some areas experiencing these issues include Old Hafeezpet, Izzatnagar, Nampally, Asif Nagar, IDA Jeedimetla, and Tolichowki.

Residents have noticed that tankers are being diverted to affluent areas instead of areas in dire need of water. This has led to delays in delivery, forcing residents to depend on expensive private water tankers instead of HMWSSB’s more affordable options.

According to Syed Mohammad from Old Hafeezpet, even after booking a tanker with HMWSSB, it took four days for the water to be delivered. This has caused frustration among residents who are struggling to access water during the summer months.

Social activist Sai Teja expressed concern that if the current practices continue, there could be a severe water shortage during peak summer months. Despite the high demand for water tankers since January, HMWSSB has been unable to meet the needs of residents effectively.

A senior officer from HMWSSB acknowledged the increased demand for water tankers this year and stated that they would be hiring private tankers to supplement their supply and meet the high demand.
