Hyderabad witnessed a tragic event when the Bandlaguda police arrested Mohammed Akbar, a 37-year-old vegetable vendor, for killing his three-year-old son, Mohammed Anas.
On September 13, Sana Begum, the child’s mother, reported her son missing from their home in Noori Nagar, Bandlaguda. Initially, the police suspected kidnapping and began a thorough investigation.
As the investigation unfolded, inconsistencies in Akbar’s statements made the police suspicious. Eventually, Akbar admitted to smothering his son with a pillow during a heated argument fueled by family issues.
In a cruel attempt to cover up his crime, Akbar placed his son’s body in a sack, tied it, and transported it across the city. He then dumped the body into the Musi River from the Nayapul bridge, aiming to eliminate all traces of his actions.
Hyderabad’s Disaster Response Force and HYDRAA teams searched the river to find the boy’s body. CCTV footage and other technical evidence backed Akbar’s confession, prompting the authorities to upgrade the charges from kidnapping to murder and evidence destruction under strict laws.
Akbar, who lived in Jahangirabad, Bandlaguda, was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court for judicial custody. Police also revealed that Akbar had a previous criminal record, having been involved in a murder case at the Narsingi police station after a violent incident when a victim resisted his advances.
