Kothagudem: District Collector Jitesh V Patil has stated that the Poshan Paksha (Nutrition Fortnight) programme should be carried out in a well-coordinated way by all government departments involved.
He was speaking during a review meeting held on Tuesday at the IDOC office conference hall. The meeting was organized by the Women and Child Welfare Department. Patil explained that the Poshan Paksha campaign will run from April 8 to April 22 as part of the Arogya Telangana health initiative.
The main goal of the programme is to identify pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, young children, and teenage girls who are suffering from malnutrition or poor health. Once identified, they will receive healthcare and nutritional support.
Medical department officials have been asked to share information about malnourished pregnant women with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). These women should then be provided with nutritious food. Similarly, the ICDS will share information about malnourished or underweight children with medical staff, who will carry out health check-ups.
The Collector also said that events should be held across all levels—from villages to the district level—following a fixed schedule. As part of the programme, special fairs should be held to display different types of healthy and nutritious food.
Nutrition experts will take part in these fairs to give advice to the public about healthy eating. In addition, nutritious food items should be available for sale at these events. These foods should be especially helpful for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children.
