Hyderabad is set to host a grand Independence Day celebration at Golconda Fort this year. The event will feature 1,200 artists, almost double the number from previous years. These artists make up cultural troupes that will showcase at least five art forms from across the state. The program will include tribal and folk performances, as well as dance forms popular in northern states.
Officials have revealed that, alongside traditional performances that have been part of the event since Telangana was formed, five new art forms will debut this year. These include Nayakapodu from Adilabad, Ghata Vinyasam from Jangoan, Jamidika from Karimnagar, Dhemsa from Utnoor & Lakshettipet, and Dubbula from Jagtial. Artists will wear traditional attire, highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage and adding vibrancy to the event.
Musicians will enhance the festivities with instruments like dappu, dollu, and nagara. The performances will include tribal, classical, and Deccani art forms, as well as contributions from other states, such as Punjabi Bhangra, Gujarati Garba, and Rajasthani folk dance. According to Mamidi Harikrishna, the Director of Culture, these diverse performances will be a major attraction.
For the first time, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will hoist the national flag at Golconda Fort. Authorities are making sure the event runs smoothly on August 15. They are also planning to accommodate twice the usual number of participants, allowing more people from different sections of society to attend. Previously, the audience was between 3,000 to 4,000 people, but this year it will be doubled, giving non-VIPs a chance to be part of the celebration.
On Monday, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari visited Golconda Fort to check on the preparations for the Independence Day event. It was decided that school children from various schools would be brought in to foster a sense of patriotism. The Chief Secretary also instructed the police to ensure proper security and traffic arrangements to avoid any inconvenience to the public.
